Metaphor Project

The idea for this project - given to me by Jarod - was that a lady thought solar panels would suck up all of the sun's energy.  The orange represents the sun, the blender is the solar panels with someone else's hand about to press the button, and the lady is..the lady that believed the solar panels would absorb all of the sun's energy

Dinobird Final

After it came out of the kiln, this is how it looks.  I like it a lot.  The eyes came out looking really nice.  I had wanted the marks on the beak to be completely one color,  but they came out partially transparent.  This is fine, it still looks wonderful

Blind Portrait

Here is my blind portrait work in progress.  The person that was assigned to me said "I'm caring, I LOVE CATS, I like hangin' out with my friends."
So I put four cats on there... Hanging out together.  I put hearts on one of the cats to show that it is caring.
This project was pretty fun.

Dinobird Head

Here is my first project for Visual Arts - Proficient Honors (with all progress photos).  It started off as a drawing in my sketchbook that I had not planned to do anything with.  Mr. Sands saw this drawing and liked it and somehow it got to the point where I was sculpting a dinosaur bird head out of clay.  I'm very proud of how it turned out along with how little time it spent me to do this - it took less time than all the previous sculptures that I had done of a size like this.  I'm not sure what I am going to do next with this piece, but it was fun to make.  It is cracking in the back, so it might be glazed a little, or..  Whatever is suggested to be the best method to prevent it from falling apart.  That would be a shame.

Scratchboard

Artists Create Original Art
Instead of drawing a normal dragon, I tried to do a sand dragon.  Or just a dragon more suited to living in the desert.  The sail-like wings on its back are more suited to helping it zoom over the dunes than to fly.  The smooth scales all over its body help it slip through the sand.  Other pictures of dragons was my inspiration, though it was kind of hard to find a good sand dragon one without it being of Dungeons and Dragons or something.  This is my own stylized desert creature, though the design could be better.
 Artists Develop Art Making Skills
This is the first time I've ever used a scratchboard.  When I was first doing the wings, I messed them up and made them too scratchy.  Oops.  It looks pretty good for a first time.  I didn't gain any skill with familiar materials; I learned how to use a new material.
Artists Take Risks
First of all, I don't think any of us were sure about using the scratchboard.  Maybe a few were, but most of us had never done one before.  I'm one of the ones who hadn't scratched a scratchboard yet.  It was a bit like those lottery tickets where you scratch the material off.  The new material this time was the scraping tool.  It's pretty much a knife but in a better form for this sort of thing.
Artists Solve Problems
One of the big problems was the wings.  I had been too eager to give them a "leathery" look, and went overboard with the scratches.  There's no lighting or shading as a result, and it looks really messy.  I started doing the wings a different way about halfway through, and it looked super cool, so I tried to merge them together and make a smooth recovery.
